I can't prove it, but if this is the Vernon Allen you are interested
in, it seems probable that he died in 1986:

http://www.getcited.org/mbrx/PT/99/MBR/10324957

The "Vernon Allen" referenced above was apparently born in 1933. The
Social Security Death Index (SSDI) has an entry for a "Vernon Allen"
that was born in 1933 and died in 1986, and whose last "Last Benefit"
entry lists Madison, WI as its location. According to the SSDI, the
place of "Last Benefit" can be either the decedent's last residence or
the place where a lump-sum burial benefit was sent.

I don't think that SSDI search results are directly accessible. To
access the information on Vernon Jordan, go to the SSDI search page
here:

http://ssdi.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi

Click on the "Advanced Search" button;
Enter his first and last name and enter "WI" as the state of "Last Benefit."

Again, the correlation of these two sources of information may be just
a coincidence, but the information may prove useful to you or another
researcher in nailing down an answer.
