In the year 2000, I was visiting London and I saw a music video and
heard a song that has been stuck in my head for a while. It's back and
I really and truly need to find out what the song is!! I have very few
clues, but if you can figure it out, it's worth $35.

Here's what I remember:
1. the word "supergrass" appears in the lyrics (but the group isn't
supergrass, I checked).
2. the video was about these rock stars going on tour. They were the
sort of hyper skinny 26 year old white guys you think of when you
think of Red Hot chili peppers.
3. the music was anthem-like, sort of a repetitive pop song in the
spirit of, say, FatBoy Slims "wonderful night".
4. it's possible (but not certain) that the video was in black and
white. It felt a little like a newsreel. I have a vague recollection
of a convertible, as well.
5. MTV UK (or local equivalent) was treating the video like a big
deal... it was an exclusive first release or something...

I know I've given you almost nothing to go on, and I apologize if you
think I'm a wacko, but hey, it's worth a shot.

Hello sethgodin-ga,

Could the song you are looking for be "Tosh" by Fluke? The lyrics
contain the phrase "Super grass for gain". Fluke is a London, England
based group.

You can hear a clip of the song at the following link:

Thanks, Googlenut

that's a great song, but it's not it. My song is a lot less techno.

I know this is frustrating. It is for me too! I dreamed about it again last night.

Thanks.

Hi sethgodin

Can you remember anything else about the lyrics? The video you
describe seems pretty generic for UK white-boy bands. In 2000, the big
UK bands included Coldplay, Blur, Primal Scream, Starsailor, and MTV
would have made a big deal of new videos by them. But none of these
seem to have "super grass" in their lyrics.

From your clues I've eliminated Wu-Tang Clan's Diesel, featuring the
line "the super grass childish blast sleepy eye stash".

This may have been released after 2000, but could it be "Everything
You Know Is Wrong" by UK band Chumbawamba, which contains the line "I
was in Paris in the underpass, I'm the FO-sponsored super grass"?

Alas, it's not Flake.

It's a great tune, but not the one. My song is slower, the words are
clearer and the there's more of a propulsive, underlying big beat.
