I am doing research for a book that includes indian tribes that
lived in and around what is now Austin Texas. I am interested in a
timeline begining with the earliest recorded history of all the native
tribes that lived in the Austin area up to the point that they were
displaced from that part of Texas. If there were any noteworthy
battles, events etc I am also interested in finding out about these.
Specifically- I am interested in any specific stories related to what
is called the "Treaty Oak" tree in near downtown austin. This a very
old Oak tree that apparently was a place where Indians and settlers
met to trade and or sign treaties. I would like to know what indians
were active with the settleres regarding the tree and over what time
period(s) this trading/treaty signing happened.
