From what I'm guessing, someone who was diagnoised with borderline
personality disorder in the past
more than likely cannot get their foot in the door in the criminal
justice field.
I suffered from major trauma as a child so naturally a shrink would
have something to say, have to give me a label, and f*** up my life for sure.
I'm extremely interested in the crimal justice field. I've never been in trouble,
did drugs, or anything. I wanted to apply to be a police
officer/detective but in fear of rejection once my medical record was
dug up, I just enrolled in collge instead thinking that with a
bachlor's in criminal justice I could do more, and would be less
likely to get turned down.
I want to be a juvenile probation officer or social worker so I can be
there to help other children and adolesents in their time of need and
hopefully help them turn their lives around. And who better to help
them then someone who's actually gone through what they have?
But I've been researching qualifications online and now I'm second
guessing my move.
I just want to know before it's too late, do I need to change my major? I
don't want to waste the time, energy and money to recieve my bachlor's
just to be told "No" by every institutuion I apply at once a back
round check is administered.
Do I have any rights at all in this matter or do I just have settle
for a major that I don't want?

basically, I think that if you studies a major mostly because you
thought that it is a combination of what interests you and a
profession you could have, and now found out you cannot have this
profession, the answer is yes.

But hang on a minute, if you want to be a social worker, why not study
social work in the first place?

I have several other ideas for you (please note that this is not an
answer, but a comment, and I'll be happy to expand this for you as an
answer if you'd like the ideas):

- Becoming a teacher (or at least studying education). Teachers help
people, you could help with youth, helping them to better themselves.
There are teachers with health problems (incl. mental health, such as
borderline personality);

- Becoming an occupational therapist, an art-therapist, an animal
therapist or a similar profession. Again, some of these posts could be
filled with people with medical history such as yours;

I might think of other ideas - it is late night where I live right
now, but I would really like to help you find a profession you'd like.
