Question ID: 475652
I am a barbershop singer who would like to put in barbershop format
the Chevrolet jingle from the Dinah Shore Show back in the late 50's
early 60's. a friend of mine said that the midi file may be available
on the web if it can be located. I have contacted General Motors and
they sent me the lyrics, but told me the jingle was not currently
avbailable for public distribution. Can you help me locate a midi file
of the tune?

Before I begin to search, I'd like to verify that I am thinking of the
correct jingle. Is it the one that goes "See the USA in your
Chevrolet, America is asking you to call..."?

Here's a nice MIDI of "See the USA in Your Chevrolet."

Is this what you're needing? If so, I'll be pleased to post it as your
answer. If not, it would be helpful if you could provide a few more
details.

Yes...the jingle Dinah Shore sang was..."See the USA in Your
Chevrolet, America is asking you to call. Drive your chevrote through
in the USA, America's the greatest land of all....etc."

If the MIDI linked above is not suitable, can you give me some
guidelines that will help me to focus my search?

Yes ...the jingle you posted is exactly what I am looking for, I can
take down the music by ear, but i need a recording or midi file that i
can save on a CD or hard drive.

May I repost the MIDI file linked above as your answer? I have also
located a book for $14.95 that contains the music to this song,
arranged for guitar, piano, and voice.

Yes...please send me the info for the music to my jingle. If i can't
get the midi(and I can not copy it or write it to Cd as you had sent
it)then I guess I but a Fake Book with it in it.
Thanks, you work is admirable.

You should be able to copy this file to your hard drive. Right-click
on the link (using the mouse button on the right-hand side), and
you'll get a menu, from which you choose "Save Target As..." Then you
can choose the filename and directory under which you'd like to store
the file.

The "fake book" that I mentioned earlier is "Great Songs of Madison
Avenue," available here for $14.95 plus shipping:

MusicNotes: Great Songs of Madison Avenue
http://www.musicnotes.com/sheetmusic/book.asp?ppn=bkhl657060&sid=698

Another option: "See the USA in Your Chevrolet" appeared in the
July/Aug 2002 issue of Sheet Music Magazine. You might see whether you
can track down a copy at your local public library. University
libraries sometimes keep bound copies of this magazine in their
collections.

And one more possibility. Here is an eBay auction of sheet music from the 1950s:

eBay: Song Sheet, "See the USA in your Chevrolet"
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=52473&item=4073723638&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

My Google search strategy:

Google Web Search: "see the USA in your Chevrolet" "sheet music"

I hope this is helpful. If anything is unclear or incomplete, please
request clarification; I'll be glad to offer further assistance before
you rate my answer.

I wish you great success with your barbershop arrangement! Many years
ago, I tried out for the local chapter of the Sweet Adelines, but I
wasn't the stuff of which a great choral singer is made. I no longer
sing, but I do love to listen.

Very best regards,
pinkfreud

to give you more. Thanks a million. I just hope I can do just to a
barbershop arrangement that will make 80,000 guys around the world
just as happy as I am.

80,000 guys around the world is surely an understatement of the number
of barbershop fans. And some of those guys are gals, of course!

Good luck with your project. This song seems ideal for adaptation.
