What syscall will tell me the serial number of my processor? I have an Intel Pentium 4, and am running kernel 2.4.26. |

Hello Martinsz, Unless you patch your kernel, the general answer for your question is: - you can't This is because the kernel will "disable" the CPU serial number shortly after the system boots. See http://lists.q-linux.com/pipermail/ph-linux-newbie/2002-June/008656.html for a relatively short explanation or search using linux "cpu serial number disabled" for more references. --Maniac 8 |

Interesting. I've heard conflicting reports - someone told me that Intel stopped putting serial numbers in their chips after the Pentium III. Can anyone verify this? Recompiling the kernel is not a problem. |
