Question ID: 475895
I'm doing a 10 pages single line research paper. The topic is Windows
XP vulnerabilities. I need sources about:
- some background about seurity and major issues for introduction
- windows xp's security holes. (i'm planning to give one example for
each kind of attack, maybe do 8 attacks or so to get the 10 pages)
, about the attacks
   - I need particular explain on the different threats
   - e.g. http://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/413886 (want sth. like that)
- What are the solutions
- What the Serivce Pack(SP) did to fix the holes.
- what the SP didn't do to fix it.
- What other system holes is created after the SP.
- What are the unresolvable security holes.
- What is the future direct on Windows XP about its secuirties.
- etc...

good site to look at: www.us-cert.gov , www.microsoft.com has some source.

What I want:
- I want more different sources.
- well filtered informations
- concise but technicial informations.
- well organized in structure.
- I have the outline in MSWORD. please email me so that you can know
more about what I really need.
- I have only this weekend to finish it.

You might join www.techrepublic.com (no cost) and especially look at
the archived Locksmith columns for summaries of vulnerabilities when
they were discovered or announced.

Here are a few additional sources with at least some technical
information and pointers to fixes (usually to Microsoft site):

http://secunia.com/product/22/

http://www.techspot.com/tweaks/updates/

http://www.winguides.com/security/category.php/2/

http://www.sans.org/top20/

http://forms.theregister.co.uk/search/?q=windows+XP+vulnerabilities&x=0&y=0
(less structure, new reports, but usually with technical information).

Between those, you should be able to find a few you can use. Good luck.

I love to but I'm just too busy to tackle this big a question just
now. BTW, you'll find most of those citations listed in athena's
comment in the locksmith column along with interpretations of the
technical information.

www.windowsforensics.com might also be useful depending on your level of knowledge.
