How can I set "View" to "Details" permanently and for all folders and files?
I use windows XP and in windows explorer whenever I want to see a list
I set it to 'detail', but then the next time I want to see it it seems
to have forgotten my setting and reverted to other options.

Hi perplexed,

You'll find directions at the following link, including a video of the procedure.

How do I get Windows Explorer to display details by default?
Now, verify that Explorer is showing you things the way you want to
see them. If not, go back and adjust whatever needs to be adjusted.
When you are done:
* Go back to Tools, Folder Options and click on the View tab.
* Press the Apply to All Folders button. You'll get a reminder message
that the new settings will apply the next time you start Windows
Explorer.

I hope this helps. If you have any questions, please post a
clarification request *before* closing/rating my answer and I'll be
happy to reply.

Thank you,
hummer
