I am doing a project at school on the power of vanity phone numbers
used in tv commercials. I was wondering if there was a CD I could get
with these TV ads?
eg: 1800-FLOWERS , 1800-PLUMBING etc...

I'm not sure such a CD exists, but here's a document that might be helpful:

It lays out the advantages of a good 800 number from a marketer's
point of view..especially, have a look at the Top 10 list of reasons
to have an 800 number.

Does that sort of thing help at all....?

Hi pafalafa-ga,

Just to clarify the question, I am really after actual advertisements
showing vanity numbers. I am based in Australia and cannot tape-record
the ads on TV in the U.S. Also, Australian businesses don't use
phonewords such as 1-800 PLUMBER. The phone system over here is a bit
primative.
I though maybe a contact at a Television station in the States would be helpful.
P.S. Sorry for the delay in response, I just woke up.

Regards

Michael

Michael,

G'day mate.

Have a look at this ad archives site:

http://ad-rag.com/

You can type [ 800 ] in the search box and get a hodge-podge of
results. Or you can zero in with a search on, e.g. [ 800 flowers ]
(or plumbers, or...) to get more targeted results.

These are the actual video spots, but you have to chip in a few bucks
(US slang for $$) in order to actually view the ads.

Let me know if that works for you.

Can't help you find the commercials, but I want to be sure that you
don't forget to look for 1-800 CAR-CASH and 1-800 MATTRESS ("leave off
the last S for savings!") Those are some of my favorites!

Hi Michael:

There are a number of Australian businesses using phonewords to
attract more calls and business these days.

There are a number of advertisements (print and tv based) that are on
display here in Australia.

"1800 Flowers" and "1800 Plumbing" are not advertising on the tv as
yet however I feel we could source other great (tv and print)
advertisements that would enhance and compliment your project.

If you don?t get a better answer from one of the paid researchers -
get in contact with me and I would be happy to help you out here in
Australia.

Good on you for taking an interest in a developing communication trend.

Thanks.
