I was recently approached by the head of a medium sized (50 to 60
employees) New York City animation company to supervise one of the
departments working on an animation series (TV). I have 10+ years of
project management experience in the entertainment world, and am adept
at managing creative people; however, I have never worked in the
animation field. The interviewer knows about my past experience and
seems to feel like I could adapt to the position very quickly. He has
asked me what my salary requirements are, and I would like to know how
much I should ask for (with and without benefits). The position would
require me to work a 50-60 hour work week, and the series is expected
to run for at least a year.

An animator in NY makes, on average, about $53K, and high-end, $97K.

A supervisor should certainly expect, I would think, something at
least at that level, if not more.

If those numbers sound about right to you in terms of your prvious
salary history and current expectations, they may be the best guide
you'll get, short of actually asking several people in the business
for their own experiences.

Does that information meet your needs?

I already knew about the range for an animator, and I too would think
that a supervisor should get more. However the range you gave me is
very broad, with no real data on a supervisor position. I realize that
the best way would be to talk to people in the industry, and I was
expecting this forum to do that legwork for me. I'm afraid that the
information you gave me is too subjective to help me. Thanks for
trying.
