How do I configure Outlook 2003 to access my Gmail account? I have
tried the http route and get an error message. What about POP? What do
I put in the incoming and outgoing mail server boxes?

Thanks

Hi tomkh24,

I'm not going to post this as an answer until I'm sure it works for
you. Please follow these steps and it should work (I've forwarded my
gmail account to Outlook using POP).

1. Open Outlook.

2. Click the 'Tools' menu, and select 'E-mail Accounts'.

3. Select 'Add a new e-mail account,' and click 'Next.'

4. Choose 'POP3' as your server type, and click 'Next.'

5. Fill in all necessary fields to include the following information:
-User Information
Your Name: Enter your name as you would like it to appear in the
'From:' field of outgoing messages.
Email Address: Enter your full Gmail email address (username@gmail.com)

-Server Information
Incoming mail server (POP3): pop.gmail.com
Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.gmail.com

-Login Information
User Name: Enter your Gmail username (including '@gmail.com')
Password: Enter your Gmail password

6. Click 'More Settings?,' and then click the 'Outgoing Server' tab.

7. Check the box next to 'My outgoing server (SMTP) requires
authentication,' and select 'Use same settings as my incoming mail
server.'

8. Click the 'Advanced' tab, and check the box next to 'This server
requires an encrypted connection (SSL)' under 'Incoming Server
(POP3).'

9. Check the box next to 'This server requires an encrypted connection
(SSL) under 'Outgoing Server (SMTP),' and enter '465' in the box next
to 'Outgoing server (SMTP):.'

10. Click 'OK.'

11. Click 'Test Account Settings?' After receiving 'Congratulations!
All tests completed successfully,' click 'Close.'

12. Click 'Next,' and then click 'Finish.'

Note: To ensure that Gmail can communicate with your mail client, be
sure to click 'Save Changes' on the Gmail 'Mail Settings' page.

Waiting to hear if this worked.

Best regards,
Rainbow

I want to thank rainbow-ga, but I don't know how to reply to him/her,
so I am hoping this will work. The advice was helpful, but ultimately
what I needed to do was enable POP in the Gmail settings. Thanks for
the advice anyway, I appreciated it.

Tom

Hi Tom,

I'm glad I was able to help. To enable POP, go to Settings in Gmail,
then click 'Forwarding and Pop'. Then follow the configuration
instructions I previously posted.

Best of luck,
Rainbow
