Ted,

Protein purification can be envisioned as taking place in three steps.

The first two steps are "isolation" of the protein, and "preliminary purification."

The last step in protein purification is generally known as the
"polishing" stage, which focuses on achieving high purity results by
removing any remaining impurities.

Is this what you are interested in? If so, I can provide some
additional details as an answer to your question.

Let me know.

Hello again, Ted.

I saw your other question...thanks for posting it, but it's fine to
make and comments or clarification here, as well. If you do, I'll be
sure to see them.

Please have a look at this document:

http://baen.tamu.edu/users/znikolov/BSEN471/Notes/Bioseparations/Bioseparations-Intro-F%2004.pdf
Overview of Bioseparations

which is a pretty good presentation of the major steps in
bioseparation of proteins. Even though the paper has a focus on
genetic engineering, the basic overview still holds.

After you have a look, let me know if it meets your needs as an answer
to your question. And if it doesn't, let me know what additional
information you need, and I'll do my best.

Cheers,

paf
