I've always wondered if it's possible to do the trick in which Mr.
Miyagi strikes a bunch of beer bottles with the heel of his hand and
neatly severs the tops of the bottles, leaving the bottoms behind.
Is such a thing possible without pre-scoring the bottles?
 What a cool trick..

Dear pcventures-ga;

Thank you for allowing me an opportunity to answer your interesting
question. Some people will avoid your question because of the
potential difficulty in trying to prove a negative. I have dealt with
you before however and you?ve always seemed like a reasonable person
to me, so I?m going to risk it here:

The feat displayed by the character, ?Mr. Miyagi? in the 1984 movie
?Karate Kid? is pure fantasy. In the movie, the character himself even
says he doesn?t know how it happened, and that it?s never been done
before. Here is the word-for-word verbal exchange between ?Daniel? and
?Mr. Miyagi? at the point in the script where Miyagi chops the
bottles:

Miyagi: Your friend, all karate student, eh?
Daniel: Friend? Oh, yeah, those guys.
Miyagi: Problem: attitude.
Daniel: No the problem is, I'm getting my ass kicked every other day,
that's the problem.
Miyagi: Hai, because boys have bad attitude. Karate for defense only.
Daniel: That's not what these guys are taught.
Miyagi: Hai - can see. No such thing a bad student, only bad teacher.
Teacher say, student do.
Daniel: Oh, great, that solves everything for me. I'll just go down to
the school and straighten it out with the teacher, no problem.
Miyagi: Now use head for something other than target.
[Miyagi karate-chops the tops off three beer bottles]
Daniel: How did you do that? How did you do that?
Miyagi: Don't know. First time.

MEMORABLE QUOTES FROM THE KARATE KID

I can?t know for sure, but I?d guess that this scene probably stems
the legendary (and probably exaggerated) feats of Tatsuo Shimabukuro
(1908-1975), the founder of Isshin-ryu karate, who was fabled to have
been able to chop the tops off bottles cleanly at the neck with his
bare hands, yet no one has ever proven that there is any truth
whatsoever to this bizarre claim.

Even Sensei Tatsuo never made the claim himself. Rather one of his
students, Sheisho Tokumine, claimed he witnessed the event in 1951. To
my knowledge, no one else has ever claimed to have done this feat for
real.

I hope you find that my research exceeds your expectations. If you
have any questions about my research please post a clarification
request prior to rating the answer. Otherwise, I welcome your rating
and your final comments and I look forward to working with you again
in the near future. Thank you for bringing your question to us.

Actually, this feat is on film in two different martial art documentaries.

One is simply titled "Budo", and is hard to find. Here's the amazon link:

The other is a kung fu documentary that you can rent at blockbuster or
any good video store that stocks up on martial art movies:

Shaolin Kung Fu (1994)

Here's the link to the video at amazon:

Google answer personel should try to study more before having such a
skepticism; and it should be noted that Pat Moriyata in the Karate Kid
movies is not a master martial artest.
