MY HP DESIGNJET 4200 SCANNER IS SUPPOSED TO GENERATE MEDIAL PROFILES
OF ANY MEDIA THAT CAN BE USED ON THE COMPANION PRINTER WHICH IS AN HP
5500PS UV.  THE SYSTEM HAS NEVER WORKED, AND COVERSATIONS WITH HP HAVE
BEEN USELESS.  I AM SEEKING ANY INFORMATION ON SOLVING THE PROBLEM OF
MAKING MEDIA PROFILES WITH AN HP DESIGNJET 4200 SCANNER WITH AN HP
DESIGNJET 5500PS UV PRINTER.

Could you please clarify and tell us exactly what problems are you
having? Have you installed all the required software that came with
it, or do you simply not how to use this feature? Do you recieve error
messages at a certain point and if so what are they? Lastly is it a
problem witht he printer or the scanner istself, are your profiles
generating, but the printer not working with them??

Because i don't have enough information to be very specific, the best
thing i can advise is that you download all the latest drivers for,
most importantly your scanner, and secondly your printer. Then come
back and be more specific :)

1) I have installed all of the required software and am very familiar
with this feature. No error messages are ever generated.  I believe
the problem is with the scanner software which is third party Contex
(in fact the 4200 is a Contex scanner.   The system is supposed to
work by the scanner printing a built in color sheet on the printer and
then scanning the printer output to create a Look up table (media
profile) which the scanner uses to correct the media when printing via
the scanner.

The scanner works fine into Adobe Photoshop and then printing images
where the printer already has built in or downloaded media profiles,
so I believe the printer and scanner are okay.  However, if you take a
media such as Infinity Arches for which there is no media profile for
the HP 5500PSUV, then there are non matching results, even when using
the scanner to print the file using a media profile created by the
scanner.

The software is pricy and should be quite accurate, but so far nothing
works and HP is of no help.
