Our company issues several hundred ssl certificates a week through
various reseller options. Our goal at this point would be to release a
completely new SSL certificate. Now, I am aware that many of the CA?s
allow for top level certificates whereby we can issues certificates
under their name with our branding but we were looking at putting the
efforts, investments and marketing into creating our own Certificate
Authority.

Much of the research we have uncovered at this point has been limited
at best. I need to understand the A-Z process of developing and
issuing your own SSL certificates and getting them to market for
browser recognition, basically becoming a CA.

Any information would be appreciated.

In my experience less brand-name recognized SSL's can be a problem,
which you should be aware of from the consumer's point of view. I
recently bought a lower-cost SSL ($69), and ran int several problems.
One was that IE gives an error about not recognizing the brand of the
SSL, and whether the user (visiting the site) wants to proceed in the
site with the SSL. The other issue is that this SSL came in 3 parts,
whereas most of the top recognized brands are 1-part. I'm speaking of
parts in the process of installing on a web server. My host was
unfamiliar with this brand and it took longer to get it installed. I
have bought SSLs through a reseller account, and would say that making
the purchase process simple and fast is essential. Best wishes on your
endeavor.
