My grandson's favorite show: Spongebob. "Track 5: "Ripped Pants" by SpongeBob and the Losers S: I thought that I had everybody on my side But I went and blew it, all sky high And now she won't even spare a passing glance All just because I [rip] ripped my pants Losers and Sponge: When big Larry came 'round just to put him down Spongebob turned into a clown And no girl EVER wants to dance With a fool who went and [rip] ripped his pants Sponge: I know I shouldn't mope around I shouldn't curse But the pain feels so much worse 'Cause winding up with no one is a lot less fun Then a burn from the sun, or sand in your bunnsss...[random instruments] Now I learned a lesson I won't soon forget So listen and you won't regret Be true to yourSELF, don't miss your chance And you won't end up like the fooool whooo ripped his pannnnts [big rip] " http://incognito.3av.com/custom2.html

Hi fentruk, The poem you seek is by the late Dr Seuss, and is entitled "The Guy Who Couldn't Make Up His Mind". Here are some excerpts from the poem, to jog your friend's memory: Did I ever tell you about the young Zoad Who came to two sides in the fork in the road? He looked one way then the other way, too. So the Zoad had to make up his mind what to do. ... If I go to place one, that place may be hot. So how will I know if I like it or not? On the other hand though, I'll feel such a fool, If I go to place two and find it's too cool. ... So place one may be the best, and he started to go. And he stopped and he said, On the other hand though ... On the other hand, other hand, other hand though ... Play safe, cried the Zoad, I'm no dunce. I'll simply start off to both places at once. And that's how the Zoad who would not take a chance Got no place at all with the split in his pants. Dr Seuss was a theologian, and his poem has been used in many sermons on indecisiveness. Here are three sermons which contain the complete text of the poem: "Indecision" - A sermon offered by Pastor Mike Castle http://www.crosscreekchurch.org/ARCHIVE/sermons/jul-dec00/faithunderfire-000910.html "How to Make Up Your Mind" (James 1:5-11) http://www.mtolive-anoka.org/sermon/June%209%202002%20How%20to%20Make%20Up%20Your%20Mind%20(sermon,%20james1,5-11).htm "Digital Living" - Sermon by Dr. Ray Bristol http://www.fcclongview.org/sections/sermons/2001/07.july/digitalliving2.htm Google searches used: indecision OR indecisiveness poem OR story pants OR trousers split OR rip ://www.google.com/search?q=indecision+OR+indecisiveness+poem+OR+story+pants+OR+trousers+split+OR+rip zoad fork road ://www.google.com/search?q=zoad+fork+road Regards, eiffel-ga

I've never heard a version that includes the rip in the pants, but it sounds as though your poem may be a variation on Robert Frost's "A Road Not Taken," found here in its entirety: http://www.bartleby.com/119/1.html Here's the first part: "TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; " Does this sound familiar? |
