My grandson's favorite show: Spongebob.

"Track 5: "Ripped Pants" by SpongeBob and the Losers S:

I thought that I had everybody on my side
But I went and blew it, all sky high
And now she won't even spare a passing glance
All just because I [rip] ripped my pants

Losers and Sponge: When big Larry came 'round just to put him down
Spongebob turned into a clown
And no girl EVER wants to dance
With a fool who went and [rip] ripped his pants

Sponge: I know I shouldn't mope around
I shouldn't curse
But the pain feels so much worse
'Cause winding up with no one is a lot less fun
Then a burn from the sun, or sand in your bunnsss...[random instruments]
Now I learned a lesson I won't soon forget
So listen and you won't regret
Be true to yourSELF, don't miss your chance
And you won't end up like the fooool whooo ripped his pannnnts [big rip]

Dear fentruk-ga.

Searching with your key words has left me with no useful lyrics or
poems that might come close to the one you seek.

I have failed you with SpongeBob's lyrics being the closest I can come
to a possible answer.

Please reject my answer and, if you care to repost the question, it
would help other researchers if you could remember a few other key
words.

Good Luck,

Brad-ga
Reason this answer was rejected by fentruk-ga:

not what i was looking for. the poem has something to do with someone
making a journey and deciding which path to follow. im not sure, but i
think the rip in the pants might have something to do with not chsing
and ripping them going down two seperate paths...

Hi fentruk,

The poem you seek is by the late Dr Seuss, and is entitled "The Guy
Who Couldn't Make Up His Mind".

Here are some excerpts from the poem, to jog your friend's memory:

Did I ever tell you about the young Zoad
Who came to two sides in the fork in the road?
He looked one way then the other way, too.
So the Zoad had to make up his mind what to do.
   ...
If I go to place one, that place may be hot.
So how will I know if I like it or not?
On the other hand though, I'll feel such a fool,
If I go to place two and find it's too cool.
   ...
So place one may be the best, and he started to go.
And he stopped and he said,
On the other hand though ...
On the other hand, other hand, other hand though
   ...
Play safe, cried the Zoad, I'm no dunce.
I'll simply start off to both places at once.
And that's how the Zoad who would not take a chance
Got no place at all with the split in his pants.

Dr Seuss was a theologian, and his poem has been used in many sermons
on indecisiveness. Here are three sermons which contain the complete
text of the poem:

The link (within my answer) entitled "How to Make Up Your Mind" is not
clickable. Apparently the parentheses within the URL are not being
processed correctly. If you wish to view that link, please
copy-and-paste the URL into your browser.

In any case, the full text of the poem is also available from the
other links supplied.

I've never heard a version that includes the rip in the pants, but it
sounds as though your poem may be a variation on Robert Frost's "A
Road Not Taken," found here in its entirety:

http://www.bartleby.com/119/1.html

Here's the first part:

"TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth; "

Does this sound familiar?
