Something called Wild Tangent was remotely installed on my computer. I have removed every trace of it except one. A search for any of the words in the error message comes up with zilch. I receive an error on start up that I have to click OK on to remove. I want it gone. Can you help? This is the error box: At the top left RUNDLL In the message: Error loading C:\Program Files\WildTangent\Apps\CDA\cdaengine0400.dll It is not in my start menu; I have searched and searched for evidence of this to remove it. Can you tell me how? | |

I'm not sure how familiar you are with editing the registry, but I believe this is where that .dll file is running from. Please be VERY careful when using REGEDIT. To open REGEDIT, go to Start, Run, type "regedit" (without quotes), and click OK. Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENTVERSION\RUN Inside that key, you should see the following (or something similar) on the right: WildTangent CDA RUNDLL32.exe "C:\Program Files\WildTangent\Apps\CDA\cdaEngine0400.dll",cdaEngineMain Delete that WildTangent CDA entry, and any other WildTangent entries that may exist. Reboot your computer when done. Please note... I do not take responsibility for any problems that may occur with your editing of the Registry. |

As I recall, SpyBot or AdAware will pull up all the instances of WildTangent so you can get rid of them. It got into my system by way of AIM, I think. Archae0pteryx |

Yes, WildTangent is an anoying piece of adware. I have been infected with this on several occasions. If your having trouble removing it and Sybot or Ad-aware cannot fix the problem, check out this site: http://www.pchell.com/support/wildtangent.shtml There are instructions on how to remove all traces of WT on that site. There is also an automatic removal utility here: http://www.pchell.com/downloads/WTRemover.exe Hope this helps :) |

I tried the first suggestion by livioflores.ga. It worked but on start-up it told me that I had reconfigured a utility and needed to change that. That made me a bit nervous. I next went to the website suggested by antispimmer.ga. It seemed that the process there was best to completely run a remove when you discovered WildTangent in the first place. So I tried splatterya.ga's suggestion. This was easy and although s.ga made it clear that it was important to be careful, etc. it seemed like the right move. Therefore, I award splattery.ga with supplying a great answer!! |

Every time you run the msconfig program at the next start up the system will show a dialog box telling you that the Start Up was reconfigured, just click in the "Do not show this again" checkbox and then press Enter. It is only a notice that something was changed. You do not need to become nervous. By working with the System Configuration Utility you are modifying the registry in the as splatterya suggested, but in an easy and safety way. See " How to use MSCONFIG": http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/ BTW I am glad to know that you have solved the problem. Regards. livioflores-ga |

that program, wild tangent, is associated with aol instany messanger, when it is uninstalled, it does not remove the item that is run for the program at startup, resulting in that error msg, saying that it cant find that file it is trying to run, you would go to start > run > msconfig > startup tab > and take the checkmark out of the wildtangent item |
