Hallo,

I have a new Dell Inspiron. Recently the trial version Mcafee on it
ran out so I bought it: Virusscan and Firewall. Since then (I think) I
have problems with the computer. Shutdown doesnot work properly: it
takes very very long to shut down, if at all.

With Dell's support we checked the computer for defects: nothing.
After the test, shutdown worked properly, so we avoided a system
reinstallation. I am not too convinced it will help. But I already
backed up everything if that is the next step.

With Mcafee's support we manually uninstalled the Mcafee programs.
Uninstalled, it works properly again. Installed again, same problems.
I deactivated Mcafee before shutdown, worked properly a couple of
times, and then today not. I would like to keep Mcafee, because I am
on the internet a lot (and I paid for it two weeks ago).

Sometimes (sometimes) I get the message "Cant shutdown program
ESCAN_jh53$%fre5345..." when I am shutting down. Mcafee said, ESCAN is
not ours, we cant help, take care of it yourself. Will try once I get
home but I did not install ESCAN or anything of the sort.

Can anyone help?

Will clarify if you need more info.

Thanks

Can

Hallo David77,
I re-installed the system (which was much easier than I thought) and
now we are abck to normal. I also re-installed most of the software,
incl. Mcafee Virusscan, it seems to work.
Thanks for the ideas,
Can
