There are fifteen states that currently impose a tax on inventories:

Here is a list of those states:

Alaska
Arkansas
Georgia
Indiana
Kentucky
Louisiana
Maryland
Massachusetts
Mississippi
Ohio
Oklahoma
Rhode Island
Texas
Vermont
West Virginia

The following linked website of the International Appraisal Company
may be particularly useful to you, because it conveniently summarizes
the inventory taxes imposed by each of those states:

International Appraisal Company: Inventory Taxes
http://www.intlappraisal.com/states.htm

Here is another site that offers complete corroboration of that
information in an article by the publisher of a magazine and website
for logistics managers:

"Here's an example that illustrates the importance of the tax issue.
Fifteen states -- Alaska, Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky,
Louisiana, Mississippi, Ohio, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Tennessee,
Texas, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia -- currently tax inventory
located there."

Search Strategy:

I used several Google searches to find and confirm the information.
To find the information, this search was the most useful:

inventory tax "by state"

This next search quickly pinpointed the corroborating information:

nventory tax alaska arkansas georgia indiana -alabama
://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&rls=GGLB%2CGGLB%3A1969-53%2CGGLB%

(I used a short list of states with inventory taxes as search terms,
while directing that references to one state without such a tax
(Alabama) be excluded from the results. That had the effect of
eliminating websites that simply listed all 50 states for reasons
irrelevant to the question.)

I am confident that this is exactly the information you are looking
for, and I am happy to be able to give you a prompt answer, If
anything is unclear, please ask for clarification before rating the
answer.
