I seek pronunciations of 10 of 11 words listed in Question ID: 474533. Please leave out #4. My preference is for pronunciations that an English speaker can twist their tongue around. This may be tougher than it appears at first glance. Good luck & thanks for trying. Regardzzz Uzzz |

I will look at the rest of the words after this part is posted. There are a few words that I could not find the proper pronunciation for. süß for example I have found many sites that are wanting to sound it like suess but I can not find anything definante. vergüenza-Audio version http://users.ipfw.edu/jehle/DEISENBE/readsp/Lesson_2_-_Pronunciation_and_Spelling.htm U is generally pronounced like the "oo" in "boot" or the "u" in "tune." Do not pronounced it like the "u" in "uniform." Examples: universo, reunión, unidos. In the combinations gui and gue, as well as after q, the u is silent. Examples: guía, guerra, quizás. If the u should be pronounced between a g and i or e, an umlaut (sometimes called a dieresis) is placed over it. Examples: vergüenza, lingüista http://spanish.about.com/library/beginning/bl-beg-pronunciation-vowels.htm pingüino [peen-goo-ee'-noh] http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Thebes/4319/lesson1.html In the clusters gue and gui, u is not pronounced unless it has the diaeresis mark (¨). This mark is somewhat rare, however. Examples: pingüino = penguin agüéis (2nd person plural, present subjunctive of the verb aguar). Here it's quite clear that the diaeresis helps preserve the u sound in all the verb tenses of aguar. http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Pronouncing_Spanish_words cinqüenta fifty qüe/qüi sounds like [kw] quick http://www.sonia-portuguese.com/text/pronunciation.htm Cinqüenta -Audio version http://www.geocities.com/Eureka/Executive/2731/lesson1/cinquent.mp3 Can not find one for qüinqüênio Not really a way to prounounce the Catalan but best I could find. Catalan diphtongs are formed by the combination of a strong vowel (a, e, o) and a weak vowel (i, u). If the weak vowel follows the strong one, the diphthong is falling (decreixent): güe: aigües ['aiws] fpl water http://www.orbilat.com/Languages/Catalan/Grammar/Catalan-Pronunciation.html qüe: qüestió [kws'tio] http://www.orbilat.com/Languages/Catalan/Grammar/Catalan-Pronunciation.html Bücher-Audio http://www.ex.ac.uk/german/abinitio/pronounce/audio/blech.wav süß A similar pattern can be found for English /t/. This corresponds to the fricative /s/ after a vowel. (The German symbol ß is pronounced [s].) http://www.ling.upenn.edu/courses/Spring_2001/ling001/relationships.html |

Make the tip of the tongue touch your lower teeth and make your lips very round and small. The tongue should be in (almost) the same position as for [i] (English ?EE?). http://home.unilang.org/babelbabble/index.php?n=1&t=8 Main Entry: 1suit Pronunciation: 'süt http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?va=suit A great site for some of the more common words.
