I am an american citizen (by virtue of having been born in the U.S.) in my mid-twenties. My father was (deceased) born in the U.S. as well. My mother was born in France, but has lived in the states for the last thirty years or so and has recently (within the last few years) applied and received american citizenship. Am I able to obtain nationality and/or a french passport based on my mother's birth in France? And if so, how would I go about applying? The information I have already found (please correct me if I'm wrong): *France allows a person to have dual citizenship *France allows persons to claim nationality by virtue of their parent having been born in France I list only these two broad statements because the other more specific information I have found is at times conflicting. |
