Howdy newhistorian-ga, Fun, indeed! From Toby Walker's UK based "Soulwalking" page on Chaka Khan's sister. http://www.soulwalking.co.uk/Taka%20Boom.html "The sister of Chaka Khan, vocalist Yvonne Stephens forged a new identity by combining the Swahili word for 'love of my people' (Taka) with a last name derived from her ex-husband's occupation (demolitions expert)." Her stage name was "Taka Boom" and that was also the name of her first album, released in 1979. She was born in the same year (1954) and the same state (Illinois) as I was born. If you need any clarification, feel free to ask, and thanks for using Google Answers. I remember learning of Taka Boom as a little girl. I saw her on a day time talk show) (maybe Merv Griffen?) and as she walked onto the set the drum sound of TaKa Boom was being played. I use this question often at parties and when I give the answer folks don't believe me. Thank you. It is fun to be affirmed. |
