Question ID: 480936
In the last few days, when shutting down my computer, 2 programs were
still running and prevented a "normal" shutdown. The programs were
"DEVLDR" and "DOABBPNF.EXE" The window at shutdown said to wait
while each of these programs ended. Then the window came up that said
that the programs were not responding and I pressed "end now". It
then took about 4 minutes for the computer to shut down on its own.

How do I delete these programs and get my computer back to normal.

I have a Dell 8100, windows and Office pro 2000. Recently upped my
memory from 256 and added two 256 "sticks"

Microsoft has a resolution for the first problem, but I won't submit
an answer until I can find out a little more about the second one:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q315327

Can you please do a Start-->Search-->For files or folders... and
search for the filename "DOABBPNF.EXE" on all harddrives? Once I know
which directory this file resides in, it may lead to a solution. Thank
you very much.

You could not find that file on your harddrive but it's stalling your shutdown?

Try a startup editor like http://www.r4u-soft.com/download.htm cleanup
all the programs you don't want running on startup.

Click start -> run, type "regedit", edit -> find, type the file names.
See what it's linked too.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the sound Blaster driver to no
avail. Also tried to install a patch (which was only applicable to
XP) which did not install.

Went to RUN, "REGEDIT" ETC. to find out what the file, "doabbpnf.exe"
is attached to. When I ran it, next to the exe file was the
following: Reg_Binary 1b a8 1f 42. Do not know what this means.

Usually you can delete the program from starting up by deleting it
from the registry. If the entry is under the services tab you could
try deleting the entry. If it's in there, you probably made a typo
in the start->find.

Just got a Warning Alert from Norton Anti Virus as follows:
"There is a program trying to access your computer as follows:
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\Doabbpnf.exe Permit or block it. I did block it
but I think it is still in my system. How would I delete it?

I would browse to the directory and add .BAK to the end of the file so
its .exe.BAK. Changing the file name will prevent any pograms that ar
trying to call it from actually doing so and keeping it from lading.
You may want to run some antispyware software on your computer as this
may be a spyware app.

The disruption was too invasive. I gave up and reformatted the hard
drive. Only took 14 hours to get back to normal.
