I am able to find a number of hotels and Bed & Breakfasts in Sam
Gimignano, as you requested. Rooms are available for the days
indicated (Check-in on 8/24, stay two nights, depart 8/26). I have
been unable to find rooms for $50/night. However, I will list the
locations in order of price. I begin the list with Agriturismo
options, which are cheaper, though not technically hotels or B&B.
Euros and US Dollars are close enough in conversion to be considered
equivalent for these purposes.

The first one on the list looks very nice, if you are comfortable with
the Agriturismo option. Have a wonderful time in Italy!

$62/night, Agriturismo: Il Colombaio di Santa Chiara
http://www.venere.com/it/toscana/sangimignano/ilcolombaiodisantachiara/

$82/night, Agriturismo: Poggiacolle
http://www.venere.com/it/toscana/sangimignano/poggiacolle/

$88/night, Hotel: La Cappuccina
http://www.venere.com/it/toscana/sangimignano/lacappuccina/

$102/night, Bed & Breakfast: Casolare di Remignoli

$102/night, Bed & Breakfast: Podere Sant'Elena

$105/night, Hotel: Casolare le Terre Rosse

A complete list can be found at the following location, if you would
like to look at all the options:

Search Strategy: Looked through my planning materials from my last
trip to Italy. I had good success booking through this service.

I did find this list of accomodations for Siena, which is in the area.
On the list, there are hotels available for $50/night for a room with
two people. I have gathered the relevant information from this web
site.
http://www.turismoverde.com/italia/siena/centro/hotel.htm

$50/night ($44)Locanda Garibaldi*; Via Duprč 18; Tel. +39-0577-284204
$50/night ($49)Tre Donzelle*; Via delle Donzelle 5; Tel.
+39-0577-280358
$60/night ($47)La Perla*; Via delle Terme 25; Tel. +39-0577-47144
(The Vico Alto is listed here at $50, but, that is a single. Double
is $88).

In researching these hotels on Venere, their listed rates were
actually lower. I've included Venere's rate in parentheses. While
there is a listing for these hotels in the Venere system, Venere does
not provide online booking for these particular properties. I am
unable to confirm availability for your travel dates online for these
hotels.

You can see Siena's relationship to San Gimignano on this map:
http://ri.falk.de/ri.fcg?SET=address&CID=2&CID=2&CTRY_0=I&CITY_0=Poggibonsi

I also checked Poggibonsi, Volterra, Calle di Val d'Elsa, and
Monteriggioni, however, there rooms were priced out of range.

I hope that helps.
