What date was ESRI's ArcSDE first published?

While researching your question, I contacted ESRI Timeline
(timeline@esri.com) with this inquiry. Today I received their reply:

"I apologize for the delay in getting back to you, but I had to
confirm the release date with our product managers since this goes
back several years. ESRI's first commercial release of SDE occurred in
1995.

The product was renamed ArcSDE in late 1999 to illustrate that it was
part of the ArcGIS family of products.

I hope this is the information you were looking for. If you have
