You have to do six courses, which are available online:
"Summer
SPE 506: Orientation and Mobility (3 credit hours)
Practical application of orientation and mobility techniques used by
the blind or visually impaired.
SPE 507: Introduction to Visual Impairments and Multiple Disabilities
(3 credit hours)
Provides a fundamental understanding of the structure and anatomy of
the eye, including discussions regarding a full range of eye diseases
and conditions and the educational implications.
Fall
SPE 505: Braille Reading and Writing (3 credit hours)
Development of basic competences in reading and writing literary
Braille and a basic understanding of the Nemeth code for students
grades K-12.
SPE 508: Low Vision/Anatomy and Physiology (3 credit hours)
Practical application of low vision techniques used by teachers and
rehabilitation specialists for the visually impaired. Terminology
definitions, optics, and the use of low vision aides will be
discussed.
Spring
SPE 509: Methods of Teaching the Visually Impaired (3 credit hours)
Provides prospective educators with the tools to effectively teach
Braille reading and writing, social skills, assistive technology,
compensatory skills and strategies. (The course requires a total of 60
hours working in settings with children and youth with visual
impairments.)
SPE 511: Braille II (3 credit hours)
Further development in the reading and writing of literary Braille and
understanding of the Nemeth code for student grades K-12.
(Prerequisite: Braille I or by permission.) "
