jax3-ga,

According to data from the IRS, analyzing income tax returns, most of
the people in the US -- about 90% report incomes of less than $100,000
(surprise, surprise!).

The remaining 10% or so reported incomes greater than $100k. However,
the combined income of this wealthy group doesn't quite add up to the
total combined incomes of the rest of the nation.

Put another way: About 90% of Americans report an income under
$100,000 per year. Their total earnings are greater than remaining
10% of wealthiest
Americans.

Would you like me to lay out the data in detail as an answer to your question?
