I would like to have IE6 (Windows XP Home SP2) remember passwords, but I am concerned that they may be viewable to hackers. I have Trend Internet Security 2004 up to date with firewall enabled. Anti-virus real time protection is also enabled. |

Saving passwords to websites in Internet Explorer is potentially risky. With free and some pay software, it is very easy to extract those passwords from your computer. However they would first need access to your computer in order to run it, or copy the cache file where the passwords are stored. Your firewall software and antivirus protection are from a trustworthy company, but may not be enough to catch same-day viruses/backdoors/trojans/spyware. Please take this all into account when you decide to use password storing in any program (not just IE). Here's a link to one software able to view your saved passwords: http://www.crackpassword.com/products/prs/msoffice/ie/ Thank you for your question, skermit-ga |

IE is not a very secure viewer - as most people use it, if your going to create a trojan or worm to run in a viewer... it'll be for IE, and passwords can be retrieved. Try Mozilla maybe? |
