I am looking for the name of a group of women that sang together in
the 1980s. They were Nicaraguan, I believe. Possibly from Honduras
or Guatemala. They sang some songs in English, although others may
have been in Spanish. Very political music. Specific song lyrics I
remember are "She makes (2-3, can't remember) dollars a day... who are
the terrorists." Also referenced Reagan in songs. I remember a tape
from around 1985. Would love to know the name of the group.

I am certain that you're remembering the nueva canción group called
Sabiá. They sang songs in both Spanish and English. Their lyrics
contain highly political references, particularly related to issues
concerning the plight of women in Central America. One of theire
best-known songs is "Who Are the Terrorists?"

Here's a newsgroup post that mentions the group:

"Two of my favorite songs come from Sabia, a Nueva Cancion group out
of L.A. now I think--the
songs are:

Who Are the Terrorists?
       and
Maria Diaz (beautiful song about 9 yr. old Nicaraguan girl orphaned
during the war for liberation/and it's follow up, the contra war--I
learned to sing it when my daughter turned 9 yr old & fell in love
with the song).

Both are sung in English, although their music is actually half
Spanish lyrics--a beautiful one I recall is about mothers of the
'disappeared'--the other half in English."

Here you can order a cassette of Sabiá's album "Portavoz" online:

Rounder Records: Sabia: Portavoz
http://www.rounder.com/index.php?id=album.php&catalog_id=4295

This site also offers the cassette, by mail order only (scroll to the
bottom of the page to see the listing for "Portavoz" by Sabiá):

Conjunto Jardin: Store

There is also a live album which is available on CD. Amazon has audio
clips that you can listen to:

Amazon: Live! En Vivo!

My Google search strategy:

Google Web Search: sabiá OR sabia cassette
://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=sabi%C3%A1+OR+sabia+cassette

I hope this is helpful. If this is not the correct musical group,
please request clarification; I'll be glad to offer further assistance
before you rate my answer.

Please excuse a typographical error in my answer. "One of theire
best-known songs" should be "One of their best-known songs." Sometimes
the fingers hit the keyboard before the brain is ready. ;-)
