If you had 1200 art prints to sell and had to get at least $15.00 for
each of them, how would you do it? That is my dilemma and it has been
difficult. I have had a website for years and have kept it updated.
Through this time, I have tried many things that didn't work: Ebay,
Liquidation.com, GoogleAds, export services, art galleries and
affiliates, just to name a few. Dealing with retail stores means
setting up barcodes and packaging and such and I'm not looking to
invest anymore in this project. Now really, this can't be that hard.
I'm looking for the name of an interested resource to sell to, or the name of a
marketing agent who will work on commission. Can anyone direct me,
please?

Depends if they're worth $15 of course ...

If they're framed you could try approaching the sort of interior
design contractors who do hotel bedrooms and deal in schemes for
hundreds of identical rooms.

Thank you for your comment. I guess I should add that the
hand-signed, limited edition lithograph is unframed and retails for
$55.00-$125.00. There is a detailed description of the art piece with
photos online, and for those interested parties prepared to offer a
deal, a representative print can be sent for inspection.
I've thought about the hotel route, but figured it wouldn't work
because my prints are not wall-ready artwork.
Perhaps what I'm really looking for is a marketing/sales professional
who will turn the situation around, promoting immediate sales.

Listen, I typically do this kind of stuff, but there are a few key
things that you've done wrong. First, only name brand stuff sells
well on the internet. Why? Because people know what they're
getting--they know the kind and quality that they are getting.
Second, only in rare cases can art do well. It has to be a famous
artist or a print from somewhere reputable. Your art that "retails"
for 55-125 a print is no different in a buyer's mind than art that
costs 3.95 at Wal-Mart. You just have a dud. No one will buy art
like that for 15 dollars a print... I don't mean to be rude, I just
want to get straight to the point with you. Eat your cost and don't
mess around with things that you're unfamiliar with in the future.

Whoa feuerbach,

I'm not sure what you "typically do" - sell art or sell brand name stuff.
You never said. You seem to be very abrupt with your comments,
though, and not much help, so I doubt if you've been marketing well
long. I have been a professional artist for over 25 years, so there's
nothing unfamiliar about it. The initial prints were sold by direct
mail for $85.00 a piece and were given excellent reviews. I've since
moved on to other art projects and my marketing days are limited. The
prints however, need to move. I am aware that art is a tough sell,
but being that marketing is not my forte, I decided to drum up the
seasoned pros at Google Answers. If anyone has any legitimate ideas,
please contact me.

I did not mean to come across so crass, my apologies. What I should
have said is this... I sell things on the internet (both wholesale and
auction), and when I first started in 1998, I tried to sell various
items similar to this. I'm just the type of person who doesn't beat
around the bush a lot. I could have put what I said in nicer words,
but what's the point? The idea of going to a hotel/motel liquidator
and seeing if they'll buy them for a couple bucks apiece is a good
idea. Again, I'm sorry for coming across the way I did, I'm just a
no-bones-about-it type of person.

If you need to offload them quickly then the sort of chains that sell
'remaindered' books might take them. Don't expect anything like $15
for them though -- they'll be wanting to sell at $4.99 or less.

Hello greenhorseprod,

I too am an artist; regarding your dilemma for selling your 1200 art
prints at $15.00 each. Have you tried some of the wholesale framers,
who sell to retail storefront art shops?

And, if you don't mind I would appreciate hearing your experiences
regarding what you said about "The initial prints were sold by direct
mail for $85.00 a piece and were given excellent reviews." Because I
am interested in learning about how I may sell some of my artwork by
direct mail.

Thanks to all who have commented thus far. Your words have been well
noted and I have looked into some of the suggestions you have made,
including remaindered books and wholesale framers. If anyone has any
specific companies they prefer working with, I'd appreciate that info
as well.

My experiences with direct mail were the most expensive, eye-opening
lessons, yet also the most profitable. I begged my best mailing list
from a magazine which featured the same niche art I am in.

The print is in color and all of the same subject, but could be sold
in lots of 100. More info has been sent to you, lateniteowl.

Thanks again, everyone. All comments are appreciated and are coming
close to the answer I seek.

I work for an art distribution company and we sell prints for artists.
You may want to try a wholesale distribution company in your area.
They are able to sell your prints for a good price and can get your
name out there. Good luck.

Thanks reggie12,

Exactly what I'm looking for, but after running a Google search I
couldn't locate an art distribution company, wholesale or otherwise,
which specifically sells prints for artists. Can I obtain a list
somewhere?

Thanks again,
