Hi! Thanks for the question.

Please remember that before providing a rating; please ask for
clarification if you will need further assistance in the answers I
have provided below.

The NSF provides a very extensive list of home water disinfection
treatment units, including their reduction claim, methods of
installation and the specific brands that make them.

Are there anymore unique more advanced technologies out there. All
mentioned that are different than the typical chlorine, UV and Ozone
are very basic in nature. I was hoping for some advanced technologies
as well.

Hi!

In this 2004 Frost and Sullivan report, Ultraviolet and Ozonation are
considered still recent technologies. Furthermore, when the industry
talks about advanced technologies, these processes are the ones that
comes up.

However here are other water disinfection and treatment technologies
out there. It is possible that even if you have heard of these
technologies, that they are currently being upgraded so that is why it
is still being considered as advanced.

- ELECTRODIALYSIS
- MEMBRANE EQUIPMENT
- Ion Exchange

The GE website also has different products covered in its technical
papers as regards to water disinfection and treatments. Here is a
rundown of such a list.

- Activated Carbon

- BioProcessing
http://www.gewater.com/library/tp/1123_BioProcessing_.jsp

- Media Filtration

- Nanofiltration
http://www.gewater.com/library/tp/834_Nanofiltration_.jsp

- Ultrafiltration

I hope this would be of help.

Thanks!

Most of the technologies that were commented on were already
entrenched in the marketplace with large players. I was looking for
technologies that were newer and not yet used by the GEs and so forth.

Advanced technologies are few and far between in water treatment
because of the need for complete reliability (publich health at stake)
and the huge quantities of water treated (million of gallons per day).
The industrial sector has more variety, but municipal will always
have the "cheaper and reliable is best" philosophy. At this point one
is given "disinfection credits" for barriers such as reverse osmosis
membranes, and precipitation and filtration techniques. Hope that
helps.

I am amazed that by asking one line "What unique disinfection
technologies are there for water treatment?" you would expect someone
to understand the detailed and specific information that you were
looking for, such as "technologies that were newer and not yet used by
the GEs and so forth." If you had just put that in the original
question, I'm guessing your answer would have been closer to what you
expected, or maybe you would have received no answer, as the previous
poster implies.
