I use Netscape Composer 7.2 to re-edit a page, weekly. The lastest report can be found here: http://www.silverstockreport2.com/reports/silverstockreport56.html I often copy, cut, and re-paste links within this html page. Specifically, I cut and re-paste the links to the company profiles. The problem is that Composer will "add" what it thinks the complete url should be. But I don't want Netscape to do that. I want to be able to copy, paste and keep the shortcut link the way it is, such as #rok.v and NOT let composer change the link to file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Owner/Desktop/latest%20files/SS%20reports/silverstockreport56.html#ROK.V That link obviously, does not work once the page is uploaded to the web! I recently upgraded to Netscape 7.2. Now, the problem is not as bad: It chagnes the hyperlink from "#rok.v" to "silverstockreport56.html#rok.v" This is also a problem because next week, the report will be report #57, and I have to change the links again. Isn't there a setting that I should be able to change so that netscape won't re-edit my in page hyperlinks when I cut and paste them? How do I solve this problem? |

Jason: I am asking others about this, hoping to find you a solution. I will be away from my PC for 3 days. I hope you get an answer by then, but if not, perhaps I will get an answer by then...or at least some intelligent questions to ask you. I am not a netscape person by any stretch. I probably have used it all of 5 minutes, and not recently. But I've asked about it where there are some pretty heavy-hitters. |

Hi, Jason. Two very highly respected individuals in web composition have responded. The first one says.............. Best solution is to learn HTML, and how to structure a website. Composer is doing exactly what it's told to do -- you copy a link that goes to a file on YOUR computer, and it keeps that link. You rename the file, it doesn't change the links in that file. The ONLY way to stop it from doing that is to totally replicate the structure of the web server on your machine, AND quit repeating stuff every week. I can't imagine the company profiles change weekly. Keep them separate, link to them when you need to, and you are using the SAME link, not linking WITHIN a document. The second one says............. Yup gotta agree with (person above's name). By using a tool instead of learning some simple HTML, you get what the author of the tool wants, not necessarily what you want. Additional comments from me........... I am sure that neither of these comments is what you want to hear. But their opinions are free. :) Good luck! |
