SO I have been taking apart many different types of flatbed scanners
for various art/tech projects. I have managed to combine the scanner
ccd's with SLR camera bodies to create new types of imaging devices
(by focusing the light from the camera lens directly onto the CCD).

My next area to tackle is if there is any way to convert the input
data from the scanner CCD and OUTPUT it to a video signal. I realize
that it will not look anything like a video camera's video signal
since the CCD works only at one line at a time and one color at a
time. Possible ways to do this might include:

* Pulling data from the image buffer on the scanner's IC board and
convert it to a video signal. ???

* Using the CCD in a kind of configuration that DOES NOT use the
scanner's original circuitry. ???

I have some experience with various electronics projects including
programming microcontrollers, using BasicStamp boards, etc. And I am
a quick learner.

So if you (as the researcher) have any solid ideas of how I might be
able pull this type of conversion off, I would definitely accept a
point in the right direction (as opposed to detailed schematics). Of
course as much detail as possible helps. Thanks.

Ok I am more than sure we can get some kind of work around going here
but I would need to know exactly what you are wanting to do. I have
used alot of different programs and some may be pricey but we can
proboly find something to imitate what you are wanting to accomplish.

Well, I am more interested in the PROCESS than the PRODUCT in this
case. I have been able to use the CCD in a flatbed scanner in
combination with a camera to create unique output images. I'm happy
with the process involved, that's fine and done.

Now what I want to do is figure out how to exploit the peculiarities
of a flatbed scanner CCD (single line scanned at a time, one line for
each color channel) and somehow apply that to video. I'm not trying
to make a standard looking video signal by any means, but I am
wondering if it's possible to get some kind of input from the scanner
CCD and output it through to a video signal. I would also like the
process to use a minimal amount of computer manipulation. It would be
great to get some kind of funky real time output on a TV monitor via a
flatbed scanner CCD. If there are any other questions, please let me
know.

Can't you just use existing scanner software, scan the image to a image file
compare it with the previous image then update the image to the monitor.

Or is the image sent to the monitor not a video signal.
