What else do you know about them (parents, profession etc.)? When and where did they die? Their death certificates would possibly include the details you are trying to find. |

Thank you for your quick response! I don't actually know what became of them--they were Jewish and in Germany durning the Holocauste--so I'm guessing the worse--they were cousins-not direct descendents of ours. All I know is that Max owned a clothing store--may have been born around the turn of the century? All I really need on them are their Birthdays and Places of birth or what cities they lived in. Thank you and please let me know if you find the answers soon--I can pay more if necessary. Thank you again, Sharon |

The following links refer to the Garfunkel family in Leipzig involved in the fur trade. However, as no first names are mentioned I do not know if this is the family in question. "Leipziger Pelzhändlerfamilien Harmelin und Garfunkel" as mentioned in a newspaper article (June 2004): http://www.moelkau.de/lvz/127543.html http://www.lvz.de/lvz-heute/127543.html Wilhelm Harmelin wrote: Juden in der Leipziger Rauchwarenwirtschaft. In: Tradition. Für Firmengeschichte und Unternehmerbiographie, 11. Jg. (1966), S. 249-282. http://www.phil.uni-erlangen.de/~p1ges/zfhm/zug1.html as referred to in this lecture (Leipzig, Institut für Ethnologie, 27.11.2002): http://www.maren-bellwinkel.de/artikel/leipzig.htm www.maren-bellwinkel.de/artikel/leipzig.pdf You could try to contact the author of this lecture: http://www.maren-bellwinkel.de/kontakt.htm Two members of the Garfunkel family in Leipzig among those being deported to Cracow: http://www.jewishgen.org/yizkor/Krakow/Krakow.html |

Thank you so much--but I really, really need more info--does anyone have any ideas? I've spent hours and hours searching (I don't have a lot of internet experience)--and come up with some of the same info--but I need exact places of birth and/or residence and can't figure out Ludwig Garfunkel (Garfinkel's) b-day at all. I'll pay some more on site--or even send you a check or paypal--I'm clueless here... thank you again :) |

Just to let you know that the following members of the Garfunkel family are mentioned in the article by Wilhelm Harmelin (1966): Joachim Garfunkel (1828-1910), his son Joseph (1862-1936) and Joseph's son-in-law Siegfried Weinstock (b. 1896), i.e. not Max or Ludwig. |
