Well, first - your not that special. You might think you are, but no
one else does. You bore people. No one likes to be around you. Do
dogs like you? I doubt it. So you want to change. Change to what?
To someone that really is special, but does not know it or believe it?

Here is how to do it. Dedicate your narissistic life to helping
other, instead of helping yourself - volunteer to help those less
fortunate than you.

I also suggest that you go out and buy "How to win friends and
Influence People" by Dale Carnegie. This book will teach you how to
put your attention on other's and get it off of yourself.

Take the Dale Carnegie classes.

Join the military. Serve your country. I suggest the Marines.
They'll beat the selfishness right out you. And you'll be a better
person for it!

Ya know, if you are truly a narcissist the above advice is excellent.
However, the one thing I have never seen a narcissist do is try to
improve themselves. I have also seen that they do not improve if
someone tries to help them. In your case you may have a wrong
diagnosis. Plus, most people will from time to time demonstrate some
of the tendencies of a narcissist but it would be wrong to brand them
as such. If you can stand to help others without it making you highly
critical and vindictive you would be out of the narcissist ball park.
If you get any joy from others successes you have some sanity left. A
narcissist is really nuts!!!

The problem could be in this area....If someone in your environment is
making you feel unsure of yourself, invalidating you, not
participating in any way in your agenda get rid of them!!!

The narcissist is really off the beaten path of humanity. Perhaps 2
in 100 people fit the bill and I question whether you are one of them.
A narcissist is in a hell-of-a-trap and their best bet is to go out
and do hard labor and stay away from the rest of humanity!!! (quite
like the advice above)

There is a book called Self Analysis?see this page
http://www.alibris.com/search/books/author/Hubbard,%20L%20Ron
It is an eye opener as to the scale of human behavior and a good road
map to self improvement.

Don't join the narcissistic club if you don't have to!!
