I am looking for contact information for radio soap opera writer Virginia Crosby. She created the radio soap "Dr. Paul" for NBC in and about 1949. I would be happy with direct contact information or family/library papers collections if she has died. |

This radio show did not last long! Dr. Paul premiered: 1951 last broadcast: 1951 network: NBC (radio) http://www.fnafsoap.com/soaphistory.htm ************************************* There is a photo of a Virginia Crosby at this website. Perhaps she is the one you are interested in knowing about. Others feel the title denotes a certain cachet. Professor Emerita of French Virginia Crosby, currently living and writing mystery novels in Paris, likens the award to "a summation, in a sense, of a span of time given to a professional endeavor, one that might suggest a job well done." http://www.pomona.edu/Magazine/pcmfl00/2.shtml ********************* The two mystery books written by Virginia Crosby are listed on www.amazon.com, but the site does not have a biographical section on her. This is the only Virginia Crosby I could locate that fits your description of a writer. Soap opera's and mystery novels seem to be a natural medium for one writer. Perhaps this is the lady. I imagine the book would show her publisher. |

I was aware of the Virginia Crosby mystery novels, however the picture and the name of her former university is a starting place to see if this is the correct Virginia Crosby. Interestingly enough the early episodes of "Dr. Paul" are dated 1949 in the Library of Congress holdings. Also scripts of the USA show were sold to an Australian radio producer where they produced a version also in the 1948-49 time period and the show lasted for twenty years into the early 1970's. |

Hi radiowriter-ga, Although I didn't think it relative as I did not consider that "Dr. Paul" was copyrighted, I do recall running across a website in South Africa where Dr. Paul show ran for 12 years. At the time, I just thought it coincidental and unrelated. Was Virginia her first name? I also ran across an obit for a Hazel Virginia Crosby married to a Mr. Cone. Her lifespan was 1907-1988. |

Howdy brad-ga: As far as I know her first name was/is Virginia. She also contributed to a radio show "The Life of Mary Sothern (sometimes spelled Southern) which was an early syndicated soap on radio. I also saw her name linked to a Lee Crosby as a writing partner. But all searches I try for Lee Crosby give me a multitude of CATHY Lee Crosby sites. (Who would have thought?) As to copyright...yes it would still be under copyright. According to the Library of Congress NBC was the producer of the USA version. I listened to 10 consecutive shows last December at the LOC. Listening is permitted but duplication requires permission from NBS (doubtful) and expensive. The South Africa reference fits. This would have been the Australian show. The copyright holders in Australia say the show was popular "in foreign territories." I would think their orignal agreement would allow them to sell the show throughout the then British Commonwealth -- therefore South Africa. Can you provide me with the South African website? Thanks again. |
