what I forgot was a keyboard short cut, you held the key or keys down
while you press "go" and no cache comes up??

What I can remember is a shortcut to reload from the remote server not from cache:
Ctrl+F5
Is it possible that this is the shortcut that you forgot?

A long time back some one gave me a keyboard key combination that sent
you straight through to the real stuf, no cache involved and I cant
remember it..

It was really neat to use just hold down a key or keys, cant remember
which and the cache was dead in the water.

Have you tried going to Tools -> Internet Options... -> Settings...
(on General tab) and choosing the "Every visit to the page" radio
button under "Check for newer versions of stored pages" section?

Tools->Internet Options->Settings. Move the "Amount of Disk Space To
Use" slider to 0. This will suppress any local caching of web pages.

Holding the SHIFT key while hitting go or refresh will ignore LOCAL
cached versions of a website (if you connect through a proxy then you
may still get a cached version from the proxy and to bypass that you
will need to talk to your network admin/ISP). Additionally you can do
as was recomended earlier and set your IE cache down to 0 (which will
tax your network connection because no pages will be stored) and the
check for newer versions will refresh the page if a newer version is
found (but not if your browser thinks it has the latest version but it
in fact downlaoded a flaw).
