Dear sam53-ga,

Yes, there is a connection. The Wessyngton family, (the name evolved
into Washington) lived in what is now Washington Old Hall, Washington
Village, Washington, UK.

Later, George Washington's direct ancestors moved south to Sulgrave
Manor, near Banbury, and then emigrated in 1656/1657 to Virginia.

This a useful site for information on Washington.

The property is now in the care of the National Trust.
"Washington Old Hall is a delightful stone-built 17th-century manor
house, which incorporates parts of the original medieval home of
George Washington?s direct ancestors. It is from here that the family
surname of Washington was derived."

The story of Sulgrave Manor is here and click on George Washington
