200 year old violin. Label says: H. Koinniny Stockholm unno 1809 It was appraised for $1,000 ten years agao. They said it is a German style although it was made in Sweeden. It was common for violin makers to travel around while learning their craft. The (y) in Koinniny could be a (g). Hard to tell for sure. I need to know what it is worth and how to go about selling it. |

It will help you if you get a current written appraisal of your instrument. You can find a local luthier or send it to someone like me, stringfest.com, for that service. Once you've determined your asking price, your best option for the greatest return is to advertise it in a local newspaper with the hope of connecting with someone that can appreciate your old violin. Old violins like yours usually have a base value of $1000.00 if they are in playable condition. Value beyond that is determined by age, condition, sound and finding a buyer. You can also go the ebay route or consignment route with a local violin shop which will increase your chances of selling but decrease the money you will receive. Hope this helps. Kyle |

do a search for violin dealers or luthiers. they will appraise it for you for a fee. Value will depend on many factors including the maker, the quality and especially the condition. They may also be able to help you find a buyer. Good luck |
