I have an oil painting of Monte Cassino completed in 1944 by the then official Polish war artist whose name appears at the bottom of the painting which looks like Ktzeswinski or Wtochy. This painting depicts Monte Cassino in the moonlight not long after the Polish troops took it. Can you verify the artist in question or the origins of the painting please. |

"W?ochy" means Italy in Polish (it's easy to confuse the letter "?" with "t"). So that's probably not the author's name. |

I'd say that the painter's name could be "Krzewi?ski". |

"Signature 'Krzewinski' at lower right of design" http://www.postalhistory.co.uk/pf020.jpg http://www.postalhistory.co.uk/PolishAirgraphs0002.html according to http://www.berman.co.uk/acatalog/Postal_History_Polish_Forces_Airgraphs_Part_2_14.html (Type 20) What exactly do you mean by "verify the artist"? |
