How do I get movie files created with the Panasonic SV-AV10 (.asf
format) to play on my pocket pc?

Clarification of Question by ggoode-ga on 02 Aug 2002 01:39 PDT
I can copy the files to the pocket pc, but when I attempt to play
them, media player comes up, and the progress indicator bar shows that
it is playing, but there is no video or audio. It plays fine from the
device itself, and from media player on my pc.

Hi there,

Aren't these gadgets great!

Most likely you do not have the correct version of "Windows Media
Player for Pocket PC" installed. Version 7.1 (the curent version)
will allow you to play .asf movies on you mobile device.

You can download the latest version from the microsoft website:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/pocket.asp

Pocket PC Magazine is a good source for all sorts of information on
your pocket PC. They have an article on "Enjoying Video on Your Pocket
or Handheld PC" have a look for more information:
http://www.pocketpcmag.com/May01/video.stm

I hope this solves your problems!

Grtz,

Do you know where to find the right codec? Do you know how to install
new codecs to media player for pocket pc?

Thanks, Greg

Hi again..

Media player 8 should afcourse work...

To start with: are you sure the files from your Panasonic do work
correctly on a "normal" PC?

Indeed the solution might very well be found in installing the correct
CODEC. For the normal PC I allways trust the Nimo Codec Pack. This is
a collection of codecs that almost includes the codec needed. It can
be downloaded from:
http://perso.wanadoo.fr/nimo/Nimo50Build7.exe

You can checkout the Nimo website at:
http://perso.wanadoo.fr/nimo/

I hope this solves your problems, if not, let me know.

Often, these devices use an obscure CODEC. Without the CODEC
installed, you will not see a picture. Same thing happened to me with
with the movies created by my digital camera. Once I installed the
CODEC, all was fine.

I hope that points you in the right direction.
