Please identify and rank the largest online florists with estimates of
their annual sales and the percentage growth over the past year if
possible. Would prefer an independent source that monitors the entire
industry. Need an answer today if possible. |

Bobbie,
Sorry for the delay. I appreciate your attempt to answer promptly. The
sales numbers you cited combined phone and internet sales. I am only
interested in the online portion. Ideally, I would like to know the
sales for the 4th quarter 2004 for each of the companies you cited and
the percentage increase from the third quarter 2004. Equally helpful
would be annual numbers for 2004 and the percentage increase over 2003
for all of the companies.
If you have a hard time finding that info, any articles that address
what the firms are doing competitively to take market share from each
other would be a great substitue.

Infopros,
Please check out the table provided in the following article where
sales are compared for each company.
They state that sales for 1-800-Flowers.com includes only online revenue.

Does this help?

Not really. I had already seeen this. It doesn't help me with FTD
online, Teleflora or Hallmark. The information may not be out there,
but I was hoping that an informed trade source might have written
about this somewhere with unofficial/anecdotal commentary/gossip.
What do call that deep web or chatboard type search?? Thanks for
trying.

As I am sure you are aware, that information is 3 years old. Now if
there was any way to get current info for the main players, we would
we be talking huge progress! Thanks for continuing to work on this
one. Walmart.com , Martha Stewart.com and Ralph Lauren are
apparently making some progress in this field so anything on their
online floral activities would be appreciated also.

Infopros,
Here is a recent tidbit of information regarding MarthasFlowers
Martha Stewart Living Ending Online Sales
The company will keep selling flowers through MarthasFlowers, a
business it has outsourced to Provide Commerce Inc.'s ProFlowers unit
for a revenue share.

Thanks for the tidbit. There doesn't seem to be much out there.
If you want to close this out that would be fine.

==========
ProFlowers
==========
?Provide, which operates ProFlowers, is growing faster than its online
flower retail rivals, albeit from a smaller base. In the quarter ended
in September (the slowest quarter in the flower business), Provide
sales shot up 53.1% from a year earlier, compared with an 8.5%
increase for 1-800-Flowers.com's online sales and a 14% jump for
FTD.com's consumer sales, which include telephone and online orders.?
http://www.thestreet.com/pf/tech/ronnaabramson/10197216.html
?More than 90% of Provide Commerce's sales are attributed to
ProFlowers, although Provide Commerce also is moving into direct
delivery of fresh meats and fruits. While still a small player,
accounting for about 2% of the online flower-delivery market, Provide
Commerce's sales for its most-recent financial quarter were up 41% to
$40.7 million compared with the same quarter last year, and net income
rose from $2.5 million to $15.9 million.?

==========
Teleflora
==========
?On February 23rd, Teleflora reported, ?Hot on the heels of the most
successful Christmas season ever, Teleflora is pleased to announce
positive results for their members for Valentine?s Day.? On April
19th, Teleflora announced, ?phenomenal results: Teleflora.com orders,
all direct from consumers to Teleflora florists, saw a staggering 55%
increase over last year. Teleflora keepsake orders sent over Dove were
up 22% over Easter last year, the second consecutive year of growth,
and overall Dove orders were up 16%.? On May 28th, Teleflora reported
it ?is pleased to report another record-breaking Mother?s Day for
their members.? One would assume that Teleflora measured this
record-setting performance using the volume of Teleflora wire orders
sent by its members, since Teleflora would have no knowledge of
florists? local, non-wire sales volume. Ironically, most florists I
have talked to concerning wire order volume have reported decreasing
numbers of wire orders.?

heels of phenomenal 2003 sales.?
