At the end of the move 50 First Dates there is a song that plays for a
brief time. The song didn't have any words, just a person humming and
someone playing what I believe was a banjo type instrument. I am
trying to find out what the name of the song is, who wrote it, who
performed it etc.

I looked at the movie soundtrack and wasn't able to find it there.

If the song linked above is not the one you're thinking of, it would
be very helpful if you could give some additional details. Did the
song you want play during the end credits, or in the latter scenes of
the movie? Was it a fast song or a slow song?

That is exactly the song I was looking for. Much appreciated pink!

Sorry for the delay, I was gone for the weekend.

I am glad to have been able to help you identify your song as "Over
the Rainbow," performed by the Hawaiian performer Israel "IZ"
Kamakawiwo'ole and his ukulele. IZ is no longer with us, but his
sweet, tender voice lives on.

I don't know why this song was not included on the soundtrack album of
"50 First Dates." You can find the song, along with many other
delightful tracks by IZ, on these CDs:

Amazon: Alone in IZ World

Amazon: Facing Future

Amazon: Ka 'Ano'i

My Google search strategy:

Google Web Search: "israel kamakawiwo'ole" "over the rainbow"

I hope this is helpful! Please let me know if you need anything further.

Best wishes,

Oops. Meant to add...

Your description sounds like "Over the Rainbow" as performed by Israel
Kamakawiwo'ole (now deceased)

 - Ukulele, not banjo
 - partly hummed instead of sung
 - same used in "ER" ... http://www.tvtome.com/ER/season8.html
episode 179 (death of Dr. Mark Greene character)

http://www.mountainapplecompany.com/
 - pull-down menu to "IZ"
