Hi. I need the following information today, or over the weekend, but after that I won't need it. For an econ project I need the own-price elasticities of demand for the following crops: Corn, Wheat, Rice, and Soybeans for the following regions, or at least countries in these regions: Latin America and the Caribbean Northern America Oceania Sub-Saharan Africa West Asia & North Africa excl. Sudan South-central Asia South-eastern Asia Eastern Asia Europe excl. Eastern Eastern Europe World I'd be happy with these answers alone, but if you could easily find the own-price elasticities of supply, that would be awesome. Please let me know if you have any questions or would like any clarifications (e007@stanford.edu) Thank you so much, Erik |

I think... Elasticity in farming is generally determined by the subsidies. I doubt that there's any monopolies in the farming industry. Haha, that would be very problematic though I never heard "he who owns the kitchen, makes the rules". It's all about the gold and really, there's never any shortage of neighbors willing to sell crops if the price is good. So, in order to determine the elasticity of the product it mostly relies on the subsidies by the government, the quality of the land, and the availablility of trade, how industrialized the country is and the poverty rate. The cia world fact book would be great. http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/ A good strategy would be to look for their current cost of food, and do a separate search for the countries year to year inflation. Hope this helps some. Good luck! |
