I'm trying to find a list of pension/retirement funds that lend money
on real estate as part of their investment portfolio. I'm not
interested in mortgage companies or banks, I specifically want names
of pension funds, small or large, that do this as a general practice.

Are you seeking funds that lend directly to property owners/investors?
Because many funds use real estate investment trusts (REITs) to add
real estate to their portfolio.

No. Many pension funds make real estate loans to private parties or
private companies. I own a property that is free and clear in Laguna
Beach California and I am in the process of selecting lenders who will
loan me money against the property. I'm not trying to sell the
property to a pension funds. Most pension funds allocate a portion of
the fund to promissory notes or deeds of trusts and use that as a way
to generate returns for the pension fund. This is what I am looking
for. In short, a loan from a pension fund using my property as
collateral for the loan. It's a fairly common practice.

Understood... I wanted to make sure you weren't looking for a list of
REIT institutional investors.

I haven't had luck finding a free list of funds who do this. This
doesn't surprise me, because most of that business is conducted
through brokers.

The Pension Real Estate Assoc
(http://www.prea.org/aboutprea/index.cfm) and Institutional Real
Estate (http://www.irei.com/company/mission.html) would be good
resources to locate a broker.

This is not what I am looking for at all. I wanted some specific
names of pension funds that provide real estate lending as a part of
their investment portfolio. This is not worth $20. I could have and
did do this myself. Please provide an answer to my specific
questions. Thanks.
