I need to find out if there´s any travel agency or any organization of such type specialized in helping disabled people who want to visit Costa Rica for recreational purposes. The answer should take into account the following details if such service is actually available: The agencies selected should provide accommodations that meet the necessities required by most handicapped people, immediate medical assist if needed, special transportation (cars to accommodate wheelchairs or other devices), special tours, specially trained guides, etc. My main interest is to determine how feasible it is for a handicapped individual to travel to Costa Rica for vacations. |

Hello - I am not a researcher, but this site might be of interest to you. It's an organization local to my area, that has gained international recognition in working with these issues. I normally don't provide links since this is work for the researchers, but perhaps they have other information. Best of luck to you. My guess is that you will have a great time on the trip that does meet your needs. http://www.miusa.org Mobility International Empowering people with disabilities around the world through international exchange and international development to achieve their human rights. |

The tourist infrastructure in Costa Rica is fairly developed. Manual Antonio National Park, for example, has a paved path for wheel chairs. Mariah Costa Rica Tours should be able to hook you up with an itinerary that is accessible for a disabled person. I used Mariah last year and was impressed with hotels, drivers, and guides that this outfitter provided. |
