We, too, are J. Oates fans. We are not experts, but we have 2 of his
paintings (would like to buy more!) and have done some research on the
artist. Here's some basic info. Oates was born in Tossa de Mar on
the Costa Brava, in Spain. He was born Jaume Oates (the Catalan
spelling of Jaime) but is generally referred to as Jaime Oates. He
studied at the Escuela de Bellas Artes de San Jorge, Barcelona, and
the Central School of Arts & Crafts in London. He emigrated to Mexico
in 1948. In 1954 he was appointed Headmaster of the School of Fine
Arts of Taxco. He later became the Director of the School of Fine
Arts of Taxco. We think he's still living, but we aren't totally
sure.
