Hi caligirl46,

This simply means that the company you are applying to is not governed
by, or subject to the federal DOT (Department of Transportation) and
USCG (United States Coast Guard) regulations in regards to Drug
Testing. Certain industries that can affect public safety are
mandated by federal law (cited below) to have drug-free workers, and
the federal government requires drug testing to ensure this.
Regulated drug screens must be done in a certified lab to exacting
standards. DOT and USCG regulated companies MUST test every employee,
at certain intervals to ensure every employee remains drug free.

Non-regulated companies like the one you are applying to are not
required to drug test at all, they do it because they want to. They
may test at any time they wish, and for any drug they wish.

http://www.ndfwa.org/Information/test%20facts.htm
..."Department of Transportation (DOT) requires that the 5-panel
screen and breath alcohol testing be used for all DOT regulated
companies. Non-regulated companies may test for as many drugs as they
wish as would be applicable for the company and in compliance with any
state laws..."

Drug Testing

By December, 1990, all American businesses governed by federal DOT and
USCG regulations were required to be in compliance with the Drug-Free
Workplace Act, 49 CFR Part 40 initiated by President Reagan's 1986
Executive Order 12564 and further defined in 46 CFR Parts 4, 5, and
16.

D.O.T. Testing : (REGULATED)
http://www.drug-screen.com/services.html#D.O.T.%20Testing
..."All D.O.T. testing is done in a N.I.D.A. certified laboratory..."

Non-D.O.T. Testing : (NON-REGULATED)
Industrial drug screening is available for businesses that are not
required to test, but would like to ensure a safe drug free
workplace..."

Hope this helps...

Hi...does this mean that I can enjoy some drinks with my friends
before the test. I do not do any drugs except have a few drinks.

Yes, you can enjoy your vacation, and drink with your friends, but
when you go in for the drug test, you want to be totally 100% sober,
as they may do a breath test to screen for recent alcohol use.
