I think people are taking this far too seriously. Reminds me of all the fuss over Randy Newman's song "Short People." "The inspiration for the title of the song, however, indicates a deeper problem with education in general. While he was sculling in Key West, he rowed under a bridge that had a large piece of graffiti: 'Math Suks'. 'God, they can't even spell.', he thought as he passed under the bridge. The comic irony of the graffiti artist not even being able to spell the complaint correctly planted the seed for the satirical song. Fortunately, Jimmy Buffett is now on the educators' side of the fence - he has lectured at the Berkeley School of Music, and he helps his own kids with their math struggles." http://www.mathandstats.com/kraus/math/responsetoforum.htm |
