Hi, I need this info quickly! I had several contract jobs through a
large employment agency from 1996-2001. I performed work for the
companies, i.e., XYZ company, but the agency paid me and I was a
contract employee through them. The agency is refusing to provide me
with my past references, saying they're proprietary. If I had known,
I would have gathered other references at that time! Now, they will
not answer my calls about confirming the dates of my employment at
various jobs---a new employer needs this information, and two of the
companies I worked for (contracted) have shut down so I have no other
access to this information. Is this legal? Do I have any recourse?

Good tip if I get this by tomorrow.

This firm is more correctly called a staffing
agency/recruiter--permanent and contract staffing placements. The
employers pay them for the contractor/employee they wish to hire. I
did not pay the agency for any referrals. They paid my salary.

I don't know if pinkfreud or anyone else is working on this, but I
will double the price and give a large tip if this gets done by
tomorrow, hopefully before afternoon.

Thanks for your patience!

It is virtually impossible to answer a question about whether or not
something is legal without knowing the jurisdiction. Where did this
occur?

Someone added a helpful comment but it is no longer here? I don't
understand that. I wanted to thank that person anyway! I appreciate
your help.
